Welcome to the Year 3 page!

In Year 3 we have two classes. Our class teachers are Mrs West and Mrs Bayes. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Hall, Mrs Cavill, Mrs Kirk and Mrs Foster.

Year 3 is a year full of discovery, adventure and hands-on learning as children begin Key Stage 2. Throughout the year, pupils will explore three exciting topics: Rainforests, Stone Age to Iron Age Britain and Ancient Egypt, developing their understanding of the world through engaging lessons and memorable experiences.

In the autumn term, children will learn about the fascinating world of rainforests, exploring different climates, continents and habitats. They will bring this learning to life through an in-school Rainforest Experience Day, including rainforest fruit tasting, and a visit to Lincoln Zoo to learn more about the animals and ecosystems that thrive in these environments. In the spring term, pupils will travel back in time to study Stone Age to Iron Age Britain, culminating in a visit to Creswell Crags, where they will discover how early humans survived and learn about life in prehistoric Britain.

During the summer term, children will uncover the mysteries of Ancient Egypt, investigating one of the world’s earliest civilisations, learning about pharaohs, hieroglyphics and Egyptian achievements. An exciting Egyptian Experience Day, including the opportunity to handle Egyptian artefacts, will help bring this fascinating period of history to life.

Across the wider curriculum, pupils will study topics such as plants, animals, rocks, forces and light in science, whilst developing their creativity through art, design technology and music. They will enjoy a range of high-quality texts in English, learn French for the first time and develop important computing skills through animation, desktop publishing and programming.

Year 3 pupils will also enjoy a range of sporting opportunities throughout the year. In the summer term, they will visit Grantham Meres Leisure Centre to take part in a Mini Olympics Festival, where they can experience a variety of Olympic and Paralympic sports. Alongside their PE curriculum, this helps to promote teamwork, resilience and a love of being active. Through these experiences, and through our wider curriculum, children will also develop an understanding of the importance of respect, equality and inclusion. We actively promote the protected characteristics, helping pupils to celebrate diversity, challenge stereotypes and appreciate the contributions of people from all backgrounds, faiths and communities.
