In Year 1 we have two classes. Our class teachers are Miss Whitman, Miss Parker and Mrs Vilkotis. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Milner, Mrs Hampton and Miss Hampton.
Year 1 is a busy and exciting year filled with creativity, exploration and new discoveries. Our learning journeys take us through the fascinating topics of Toys, Castles and Seasides, helping children develop their understanding of the world through hands-on, memorable experiences. Pupils will investigate old and new toys, learn about significant events from the past, including Remembrance Day, and discover the history of Lincoln Castle, the Battle of Lincoln and the life of Sir William Marshal. Later in the year, children will explore the development of the railways, learn about the inspirational Grace Darling and compare life in Victorian times with today. These topics are supported by high-quality texts that foster a love of reading and writing throughout the year.
Alongside their topic work, children will develop their knowledge and skills across a broad and balanced curriculum. In science, they will investigate materials, animals, habitats, plants and seasonal changes. Geography learning will take them from the countries of the United Kingdom to continents, oceans and different climates around the world. Pupils will also enjoy opportunities to create and perform in art, music and design technology, while developing their computing skills through digital media, programming and online safety.
Year 1 children will enjoy a wide range of memorable experiences throughout the year, including a Toy Experience Day, the Key Stage 1 production, Science Week, World Book Day and many seasonal celebrations. Through PE, character education and our wider curriculum, pupils will build confidence, resilience and independence while developing friendships and learning the importance of respect, kindness and responsibility.
