Welcome to Year 6!

In Year 6 we have two classes. Our class teachers are Mr Welham and Dr Patmore. Our teaching assistants are Mr Norton and Mrs Whiteley.

Year 6 is an exciting and important year, full of opportunities for children to develop their knowledge, skills, independence and confidence as they prepare for the next stage of their education. Our curriculum is packed with engaging learning experiences designed to challenge, inspire and motivate every child.

This year, our learning journey will take us through the topics of Water, The Victorians and World War II. In English, children will explore a range of high-quality texts and develop their writing through fiction, poetry, reports, biographies, journalistic writing and persuasive arguments. In Mathematics, we will continue to strengthen fluency and reasoning skills whilst exploring topics such as fractions, algebra, ratio, geometry and statistics.

Across the wider curriculum, pupils will investigate rivers, climate zones and map work in Geography, whilst developing their historical enquiry skills through studies of Victorian Britain and the impact of World War II on Lincoln and the wider world. In Science, children will learn about electricity, light, evolution and inheritance, living things and habitats, and the human body.

Our creative curriculum includes opportunities to develop skills in art, design technology, music, computing, French and PE. Children will also continue to build their character through our Character Education curriculum, focusing on wellbeing, relationships, respect, responsibility and British values.

Children also benefit from hands-on learning in our wildlife area, where they develop important practical and life skills through outdoor education. Already this year, they have learned how to safely use tools, including sawing branches, alongside building resilience, teamwork, independence and an appreciation of the natural world.

We have already enjoyed a fantastic geography fieldwork visit to Snipe Dales, where children developed their understanding of rivers and geographical enquiry through hands-on outdoor learning. We are now looking forward to some of the highlights of the year, including our PGL residential, where children will challenge themselves, develop resilience and create lasting memories, and our end-of-year production, which always provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase talent, teamwork and confidence.

We are excited for a fantastic year of learning, achievement and memorable experiences in Year 6!
